The Common Campfire

The Common Campfire is an interactive light installation designed to bring unfamiliar people together in unexpected urban environments.

Our experience of the city at night is defined by light. Light tells us where to walk, where to wait, where's good, where's safe.

The light from the Common Campfire is defined by people. As they approach, it grows bigger and brighter – inviting them to remain and encouraging small moments of unplanned community. As they depart, the fire falls to embers.

Common Campfire was designed and created by myself, with programming by Pierre Proske, for Melbourne City Council's Test Sites program.

Test Sites is a small scale temporary program to support creative activation of the public realm.
