The Hall of Distractions

A year of digital distractions, condensed into 30 minutes.

The attention economy is thriving. An average smartphone user receives over 50 notifications per day, and spends an average of 56 days a year looking at their screens. These notifications distract us with short-term goals that are misaligned with our own values. As a result, we’re losing connection with ourselves, and the world around us.

We created the Hall of Distractions – a large-scale immersive experience in which audiences were confronted with one year of their smartphone usage, condensed into 30 minutes – in an attempt to help people understand the scale at which screens and algorithms have gained command over our lives.
